Woodsball Paintball Woodsball is a classic form of paintball played in a natural setting. Technically, woodsball can be played in any natural ground area with natural barriers. (Boundaries are optional.) Woodsball is common among suburb and rural paintballers, since these areas usually have many suitable land areas. Strategy is important in woodsball. Player speed is less important in woodsball than in other paintball games. Woodsball paintball games rely heavily on accuracy, maneuvering, and strategy. Clothing for this type of paintball game resembles that used in military, such as BDUs, camouflage, army boot, etc. Paintball Markers Woodsball paintball guns or markers, can be modified for different strategic roles. For example, if a person wants to play as a marksman, he can add a stock, telescopic sight, and more accurate barrel to his paintball gun. Or, if he wants to play as a heavy rifleman, he can add full-auto grips or circuit boards. Camouflage Camouflage is essential for woodsball games since it aids in stealth. The most popular camouflage used in woodsball paintball games is woodland camouflage. Often, inexperienced paintball players will confuse its use as providing invisibility. Instead, camouflage is designed to be more of an aid against being spotted than a certainty against it. Use of one's surroundings (cover), lighting, backdrop, and other factors should be considered to make the best use of one’s paintball camouflage. Masks, Vests, Belts and Other Gear A large number of items used in other paintball game types, such as Speedball, may be used in woodsball. However, gear for woodsball paintball games, such as masks, need to be durable and lightweight. The gear should also have dark or dull colors to avoid detection. Gloves and pads can be very useful, especially in more rugged paintball playing environments.
