If you play at a commercial paintball field, at some point you will
have to cross the chrono with your marker. What is important
is to know what to do when in this area. Barrel plugs are
a must unless you are actually shooting over the chrono
to dial your marker in. Paintball masks are also a must in this area.
Many fields have an area that is designated as the “chrono”
area in which all of the fields “in play” rules
apply (IE goggles on, etc). It is always a good idea to
go and dial in your paintball gun before it is time for your “walk-ons”
group to hit the field. By doing this you will be ready
instead of having people waiting for you on the chrono.
You will be able to go to the chrono the ref will verify
your speed quickly and flag you on.
Pushers are another subject I must cover. No one likes
paintballers who push or horse play in the chronograph area. They are
rude and dangerous. Discourage this behavior from your paintball buddies.
This danger you will realize the first time someone puts
a paintball on you while you are in the chrono area trying to
dial in your paintball marker. Keep your barrel plug in until you
are ready to chrono your marker. And patiently wait in line.
Most players will step aside if they can not adjust their
markers right away and have shot hot or cold, make sure
you do the same. Everyone in the line at the chrono is trying
to get to the same place you are, let’s do it in an
orderly fashion.

It might not be a bad idea to take a look at your marker
before your paintball game day begins and make sure you have the right
tool to adjust your velocity. Many fields have a tool there
at the chrono, but if there is an instance where the tool
has hiked, gotten lost, or whatever, you are left with a
hot marker at the chrono on your way to their shop to get
it adjusted while the rest of your group proceeds to the
field.
- Try to get your paintball marker dialed in ahead of time.
- Remember to bring the appropriate tool to adjust your
velocity with you just incase. Some fields have rules
about these adjustment tools being on the field during
play so please respect these rules. These are also easy
to loose and hard to find if they are dropped in the field during paintball games.
- Follow the goggles on rule while in the chrono area.
- Be courteous. Even rude players will recognize this
courtesy and allow you access to the chrono in a quick
fashion.
- Never trash talk at the chrono. This is never a good
idea anywhere on the field for all that matters. Trash
talking will make things rough on you. The person you
are trash talking to may end up on your team. Remember
friendly fire counts you out too.
Keep on smilin',
